What is SearXNG?

SearXNG is a free and open-source metasearch engine that can be self-hosted to aggregate results from multiple search services and databases. It returns consolidated results from various sources and, according to the official documentation, does not track or profile users. The system is suitable for private search and for building custom search infrastructures.

In technical use cases, the SearXNG metasearch engine is often used as a search layer for AI agents, chatbots, and internal research services, where control over query routing and independence from a single commercial provider are important. The official documentation explicitly states that the system can aggregate results from up to 250 search services.

A key advantage of SearXNG is its configuration flexibility and the ability to deploy it as part of a local AI stack.
