UNIQA insurance company switches to cloud technology with De Novo
2013-08-22
UNIQA, one of the leaders on Ukrainian insurance market, transferred a part of IT processes into cloud environment. De Novo, operator of cloud services, helped UNIQA navigate in the cloud environment, successfully landing the company’s IT systems onto the hybrid cloud platform.
A shift from traditional IT model to cloud technologies enabled UNIQA to ensure business continuity, unify IT components, and significantly cut down IT expenses. The transformation was also key to improved data security and allowed the company to concentrate resources on business development. The steps taken towards the cloud ultimately contributed and benefited UNIQA service quality, increasing the speed of closing the insurance deals in particular.
The UNIQA’s transformation to hybrid cloud started with the implementation of virtualization technology in 2009. The project was green lighted to improve scalability of the infrastructure and systems reliability – the company is operating through 26 regional offices and more than 250 points of sale, so it was important for UNIQA to make sure its IT functions like clockwork.
Tatyana Zakotiy, Head of IT department, UNIQA: “In early 2013, UNIQA head office was moving to a new building, and the IT department had to make sure all the basic IT services work uninterrupted in this period of time. This meant we were to move a part of company’s IT infrastructure into the cloud. De Novo delivered on all fronts, providing us with comprehensive support and tools we needed in order to migrate, such as the testing environment for crafting a migration plan, as well as technical documentation and all-round support from VMware and De Novo specialists and experts. As the result, in just three days we got working landscape of a part of our IT infrastructure, and successfully migrated into the cloud”.
Maxim Ageyev, CEO, De Novo: “Currently a part of UNIQA IT infrastructure works within De Novo cloud environment. The reliability and continuity factors of this model put UNIQA ahead of the competition on insurance market. With the power of cloud, the company is now able to adapt its IT to changing market landscape, easily scaling computing resources up or down”.
It’s also worth noting that the project was implemented without any kind of major investments. What’s more, it allowed for lightening the load on systems administrators – due to the cloud, now there’s less hardware for them to service and maintain.
Today, UNIQA’s IT department is an example of an up-to-date and effective infrastructure, a reliable and responsive background for succesful business and improved quality of service UNIQA provides its customers with.
