BaaS (Backup as a Service) is a cloud delivery model for backup in which the provider supplies the infrastructure, storage, management, and execution control of backup processes as a managed service. Within the Backup as a Service model, the customer does not deploy their own storage systems or backup software, but instead uses a centralized platform with remote access and automated data protection policies. The model supports backup of virtual machines, physical servers, databases, and cloud environments with defined RPO and RTO parameters.
BaaS is implemented through secure data transmission channels, with encryption in transit and at rest, deduplication, and the use of immutable storage to protect against ransomware. The service includes job monitoring, reporting, recovery testing, and the capability for geographic replication between sites. Architecturally, Backup as a Service integrates with enterprise infrastructure via agents or APIs and scales depending on the volume of protected data and resilience requirements.
